Agartala: April 26: A young woman from Gobindpur, North Tripura, tragically ended her life following severe dowry-related harassment. Monica Shukla Baidya, married to Shanku Shukla Baidya, an Indian Army personnel, faced relentless abuse from her in-laws, who demanded ₹2 lakh from her family. Unable to endure the harassment, she jumped in front of a moving train.

Monica, who was pregnant at the time, had returned to her parents’ home due to the abuse but later gave birth to a son. Despite mediation efforts, she was repeatedly sent back to her husband’s home, where she discovered his involvement in illicit relationships, leading to further mistreatment. On April 18, Shanku and another individual visited her parents’ home and allegedly assaulted her. Humiliated, Monica decided to take her own life.
