Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday said the state government’s ambitious project to develop replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas at Banduar in Udaipur, Gomati district, is poised to become a landmark destination for religious and spiritual tourism in the country.

The project, being developed by the Tripura Tourism Department near the revered Mata Tripurasundari Temple, aims to showcase the state’s rich religious, cultural and spiritual heritage while strengthening its position on India’s tourism map.

Speaking to reporters, Chowdhury said Shankaracharya Swami Adhokshajananda Devtirthji Maharaj, the Peethadheeshwar of the Purvamnaya Govardhan Math in Puri, visited the under-construction site on Monday morning to review the progress of the project. During the visit, the Shankaracharya expressed satisfaction over the pace of work and conveyed confidence that the completed project would attract a large number of devotees, pilgrims and spiritual seekers from across India and abroad.

According to the minister, the proposed complex has the potential to emerge as one of India’s premier centres for religious tourism, hosting spiritual gatherings and attracting visitors seeking to experience the significance of all 51 Shakti Peethas at a single location.

Chowdhury said the project will offer devotees a unique pilgrimage experience while simultaneously promoting Tripura as a major destination for spiritual and heritage tourism at both the national and international levels.

He added that the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to preserving and promoting Tripura’s spiritual traditions while creating new avenues for tourism-led economic development. Increased tourist inflow is expected to generate employment opportunities, support local businesses and contribute to the overall growth of the region.

The minister also noted that the project aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of developing at least one world-class tourist destination in every state. The proposed ’51 Shakti Peetha Park’ is being developed as one such flagship project in Tripura.

The ambitious project has been estimated to cost ₹97.70 crore. Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha laid the foundation stone of the project on July 13, 2025, in the presence of Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy. Once completed, the park is expected to significantly enhance Tripura’s profile as a leading destination for pilgrimage and spiritual tourism in Northeast India.
