Agartala June 3: Bank manager Bodhisattva Das of Dharmanagar, a resident of Ramnagar, was recovered in a bloody state from Agartala’s Jackson Gate area. A person saw him lying in a pool of blood in front of an ATM center and informed the police. The police rushed to the news. Rescued and taken to GB Hospital. Bank manager Bodhisatva Das later died while undergoing treatment in a Kolkata hospital.
After that, the police started investigating the murder. The names of four accused came up in this murder case, all of them are famous and influential people of the city. Sumit Chowdhury alias Babai, Collegetila area contractor Sumit Banik alias Bapi, former traffic police inspector Sukanta Biswas and Swaib Mia alias Omar Sharif Sharif were arrested. All four are influential people in the city. Four years after the murder case on Friday, the West District and Sessions Court convicted the four after taking the testimony of 56 people at the end of a lengthy trial. They are Sumit Chowdhury alias Babai, Sumit Banik, Sukanta Biswas and Omar Sharif alias Shoaib Mia. The District and Sessions Court of West District on Saturday announced the sentence of the four accused. On this day, the court announced the sentence of life imprisonment of four accused. At the same time, the special PP Samrat Kar Bhowmik, assigned to handle the case, announced another three months sentence for non-payment of Rs 50,000 fine. He said that the accused could have been hanged in this case if it was a rare occurrence. But this is not the rarest case. So life is sought. Referring to a 2015 Supreme Court case in this case, he said that life does not mean a specific time limit. As long as they are alive, they must remain in the penitentiary. If you don’t get remission, you will have to spend the rest of your life in jail. The court did not give any explanation in this case.

Forensic Science Laboratory and Chandigarh Laboratory assisted said Special PP Samrat Kar Bhowmik. Forensic experts get a lot of information from the weapon that was used to inflict the injuries which helped in the case. Bodhisattva was killed with weapons recovered from Shoaib Mia’s house. The video recording of Bodhisattva’s last statement was brought for examination from the Chandigarh lab. He said that it has become clear in the court that no tampering has been done which went in favor of the case. However, during the course of the court case, two witnesses turned hostile. One of the witnesses is Basu Kar and the other is Abhijit Das Gupta, a doctor of AGMC. Special PP Samrat Kar Bhowmik, the lawyer appointed by the government to handle the case, said that the eyewitness Basu Kar personally witnessed how Bodhisattva was killed. On the other hand, Abhijit Dasgupta, the doctor who testified Bodhisatva at the time of his death in GB, said that he did not listen.
Another court will try the case for giving this false statement. But it is time consuming. If the court does not accept the petition, the government can go to the high court, said Special PP Samrat Kar Bhowmik.
