In a significant step aimed at providing relief to citizens, the Government of India has reduced central excise duty on fuel by ₹10, with effect from March 26, 2026. The decision comes amid global economic uncertainties and rising inflation, which have put pressure on household budgets and transportation costs across the country.

The move, taken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is expected to bring down fuel prices and ease the financial burden on millions of families, transport operators, and small businesses. It reflects the Centre’s continued focus on cushioning the impact of external economic challenges on the common man.

Welcoming the announcement, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha lauded the decision, describing it as a timely and people-centric measure. In his reaction shared on social media, he termed the excise duty reduction a bold and compassionate step that demonstrates the government’s commitment to public welfare.

Dr. Saha highlighted that the decision would provide much-needed relief to citizens, particularly at a time when global developments continue to influence the cost of living. He further expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Tripura and the wider Northeast region.

The official notification confirmed that the revised excise duty structure has come into immediate effect, ensuring that the benefits are passed on to consumers without delay. The measure is expected to have a positive impact on overall economic sentiment by reducing fuel-related expenses.
