The court sentenced the आरोपी to rigorous imprisonment for life and imposed a fine of ₹20,000. In default of payment, he will have to undergo two months of simple imprisonment. The conviction was delivered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

Additionally, the court found the accused guilty under Section 498(A) of the IPC for cruelty towards his wife. For this offence, he was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000. In case of non-payment, he will face an additional one month of simple imprisonment. The court directed that all sentences will run concurrently in connection with ST(T/1) 100/2019 and West Agartala Women Police Station Case No. 81/2017.

According to case details, the incident dates back to October 19, 2017, when the victim, Sabita Das (27), was allegedly set on fire by her husband following prolonged mental and physical abuse. She was rushed to AGMC & GBP Hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

The investigation was conducted by Inspector Munna Majumder of West Agartala Women Police Station, who filed the charge sheet on February 28, 2018. After a detailed trial, the court pronounced the accused guilty.

The verdict underscores the judiciary’s firm stance against domestic violence and reinforces its commitment to delivering justice in such grave offences.
