Agartala: Oct 19. The number of Durga Pujas have increased dramatically this year. A total of 400 new Pujas have been added, a senior police official informed this publication.
Speaking on the issue, he said, “Last year, the total number of Community Pujas stood at 2,506 across the state while this year, the total number of Pujas jumped to 2,900. The highest number of Pujas are being organized at West Tripura district. A total of 950 Pujas are there in West Tripura. And, the highest number of big budget Pujas that draw huge crowds are being held at Agartala city areas”.
The West District Police Administration has taken special measures to ensure a peaceful and safe Durga Puja celebration that can be enjoyed by all. West District Police Superintendent Kiran Kumar had assured that multi-layer security arrangements will be in place all over the district to tackle any kind of unwarranted incident.
He stated that special efforts have been made to ensure a peaceful and all-encompassing Durga Puja celebration this year. In West Bengal, there are nearly 900 Durga Puja pandals this year, with approximately 800 of them located in the urban areas. Concerned about security, the police administration has assigned responsibility for the security of these pandals to 252 TSR (Traffic, Security, and Riot Control) personnel. Additionally, more than 700 police officers and over 400 SPO (Special Police Officer) personnel will be stationed nearby. Security arrangements have also been made at 25 strategic points, and 60 police booths will be set up across the city.
To ensure the safety and security of the festivities, police officers will inspect various puja mandaps and provide directions to organizers regarding the installation of CCTV cameras and security measures. Furthermore, to enhance security in the city, 30 additional CCTV cameras have been installed.
In addition to the city’s security, the Border Security Force (BSF) has been asked to maintain strict vigilance in border areas to prevent any undesirable incidents. Adequate Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel are also available in case of emergencies.
the West District Police Superintendent emphasized that during the four days of Durga Puja, from late afternoon to midnight, there will be a strict “No Entry” policy in place at various locations, including Radhanagar, Bhagban Thakur Chowmuhani, Post Office Chowmuhani, Kamann Chowmuhani, Central Road, Chittaranjan Road, and BatTala. This policy is aimed at ensuring a peaceful and enjoyable Durga Puja for the residents of the state.
