Agartala, September 11: Two men were arrested after a joint team of Tripura Police and the BSF seized Yaba tablets, a pistol and live ammunition during a raid in Sepahijala district, police said.
The action was taken on the basis of a specific intelligence input concerning suspected illegal activities in the South Kalamchoura (Galachipa) area of Sonamura sub-division.
A joint team comprising personnel from Kalamchoura and Sonamura police stations and the 81st Battalion BSF carried out the search operation under the supervision of the Sonamura SDPO.
The operation resulted in the recovery of 120 grams of Yaba tablets, one factory-made pistol and five live rounds, according to police.
The arrested men were identified as Joynal Hossen (37) of Madhya Boxanagar and Prasanjit Sarkar (35) of South Kalamchoura.
The seized narcotics, firearm and ammunition were taken into police custody. The arrests were made as part of the ongoing investigation into the suspected possession and movement of illegal drugs and arms.
A case has been registered under applicable provisions of the NDPS Act and Arms Act, while further investigation is underway. Police are examining the origin of the seized items and the possible involvement of the accused in a larger illegal supply network.
