Agartala, September 11: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday inspected Maharajganj Bazar in Agartala and sought details on the challenges faced by traders and shoppers, particularly those linked to congestion, sanitation and inadequate market facilities.

Saha visited the fish market and neighbouring sections of the commercial hub, where he interacted with traders, consumers and residents. He also spoke to officials about the existing arrangements and the difficulties arising from the heavy daily movement of people and vehicles.

A major focus of the visit was traffic management. The Chief Minister reviewed the movement of commercial vehicles and discussed the problems caused by loading and unloading activities. He stressed the need for measures that would minimise traffic interruptions and make pedestrian movement easier.

Maharajganj Bazar witnesses considerable activity throughout the day and is frequently crowded during busy periods. The administration was asked to examine practical ways of regulating traffic while ensuring that business activities are not unnecessarily disrupted.

Saha also inspected sanitation arrangements and called for greater attention to waste management. He urged traders and shoppers to use designated disposal points and avoid littering, stressing that maintaining cleanliness in the market was a shared responsibility.

The Chief Minister said the government would examine the issues identified during the visit and coordinate with the concerned departments to formulate appropriate measures.

He said efforts were being considered to upgrade Maharajganj Bazar and improve its overall functioning, with better infrastructure, cleaner surroundings and smoother traffic movement among the priorities.

Saha emphasised that market development should not be limited to physical improvements but should also ensure a safer and more convenient environment for consumers and better working conditions for traders.

He added that further discussions with the concerned departments would be held to work out feasible solutions and address the problems in a phased manner.
