Kalyanpur, July 1: A suspected suicide involving a 26-year-old man and a 30-year-old married woman has sent shockwaves through Kalyanpur in Tripura’s Khowai district. Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

According to police sources, the bodies of Haridas Pal (26) and Papiya Pal (30) were found hanging from the same tree in a rubber plantation at Nadiyacherra Para under Purba Kunjaban in the Kalyanpur police station area on Wednesday morning. Investigators suspect the incident occurred late on Tuesday night.

The bodies were first spotted by local residents, who immediately alerted Kalyanpur Police. A police team rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area before beginning a preliminary investigation.

Local residents said Papiya Pal was married and is survived by her husband, who works as a tomtom driver, and their two children. Police have not established a motive behind the suspected suicide. While some local residents have speculated that the deceased knew each other, officials have not confirmed any such claims and said all possible angles are being examined.

Sub-Inspector Anjan Debbarma of Kalyanpur Police Station was the first investigating officer to reach the scene. Later, Additional Superintendent of Police (Khowai) Justin Joseph and Officer-in-Charge Inspector Ashish Sarkar also visited the site to supervise the investigation.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to a hospital for post-mortem examination. An unnatural death case has been registered, and investigators are collecting evidence to establish the sequence of events leading up to the incident.

As part of the probe, police are examining the mobile phones of the deceased, speaking to family members and acquaintances, and reviewing other available evidence. Officials said the post-mortem findings and forensic evidence are expected to help determine the exact cause and circumstances of the deaths.

In a separate development, two youths from Gungraicherra and Batekha villages allegedly consumed poison and are currently undergoing treatment at GB Hospital in Agartala. Police said those incidents are also under investigation.

If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide or overwhelming emotional distress, seeking support from trusted family members, friends, or a mental health professional can make a difference. Immediate help is also available through local emergency and mental health services.
