Agartala, Oct 28 : The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will organise a rally in Agartala on October 31 under the slogan “Save Democracy, End Anarchy” to protest what it alleges are attempts by opposition parties to mislead people through rumours and misinformation.
BJP state president and MLA Abhishek Debroy announced the programme, describing it as a “Condemnation March” against activities that the party claims are intended to create confusion among citizens and undermine democratic institutions.
Addressing reporters, Debroy said party leaders, workers and supporters from across Tripura were expected to participate in the march and register their protest against what he termed undemocratic political practices.
He alleged that certain opposition groups were attempting to influence public opinion through misinformation instead of engaging in constructive political discourse.
The rally would provide the BJP an opportunity to present its position before the public and highlight what it considers attempts to disrupt the democratic process, Debroy said.
Referring to the long-standing demand for SAR status, the BJP leader said the issue had been raised on several occasions over the years, including during the Congress-led government’s tenure at the Centre and the previous Left Front government’s rule in Tripura.
He questioned the steps taken by successive governments to address the demand and accused political rivals of using the issue to mislead people without achieving tangible results.
Debroy also said the party had recently held a series of organisational meetings to review preparations for upcoming elections and formulate future political strategies.
The meetings reviewed the prevailing political situation, assessed the party’s organisational strength at different levels and discussed plans to mobilise workers and supporters, he said.
Those who attended the meetings included Rajya Sabha MP and former state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee, the party’s organisational general secretary, ministers Sushanta Chowdhury, Tinku Roy and Sudhangshu Das, besides party MLAs, councillors and Mandal presidents.
The discussions focused on strengthening the party organisation and preparing it for future electoral challenges, Debroy said.
The October 31 rally is part of the BJP’s efforts to intensify public outreach and mobilise its cadre ahead of future elections in the state.
The party has described the programme as a demonstration of its commitment to democratic values and a response to what it alleges are misleading campaigns by opposition groups.
