Agartala: April 30: The political climate in Tripura has intensified after a fire broke out at the CPI(M) party office in Mandai. Opposition leader and CPI(M) Politburo member Jitendra Choudhury has raised concerns about the government’s involvement in the incident.
During a protest program organized by CPI(M) in Agartala on Tuesday, Choudhury joined demonstrations featuring red flags. The protests were in response to alleged attacks, vandalism, and assaults on CPI(M) offices and leaders in Mandai, Agartala, Dharmanagar, and other areas of the state, reportedly carried out by supporters of the ruling party.
Choudhury claimed that the Mandai party office was deliberately set on fire, while the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing. Expressing frustration, Choudhury remarked that filing FIRs in such cases has proven ineffective, as perpetrators have remained unpunished for years.
He issued a stern warning, stating that those responsible for the incident would ultimately be held accountable. Condemning the fire, Choudhury criticized the state government for allegedly fostering an environment of fear and undermining the rule of law.
CPI(M) leaders have described the incident as an attack on democratic spaces and have called for the immediate arrest of those involved.
