Planned Power Sabotage in Agartala: Minister Vows Strict Action

Agartala, May 13: A wave of power disruptions across Agartala city has sparked serious concern, with Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath alleging deliberate sabotage by a malicious group. The minister revealed that 21 transformers were intentionally damaged in key areas, including Dhaleswar, Chandrapur, Shibnagar, and Kamarpukur Para, plunging several localities into darkness late Monday night.

Despite main transmission lines functioning normally, power outages occurred in multiple zones. TSECL’s field inspections uncovered that transformer gangs were thrown down, cutouts removed, and heavy objects tied to overhead lines, causing short circuits and artificial outages.

“This is not a technical glitch, but a coordinated act of sabotage aimed at disrupting public life,” said the minister. He confirmed that CCTV footage from Kamarpukur Para captured an individual deliberately damaging equipment. Similar evidence is being analyzed from other locations.

In response, TSECL filed an FIR at East Police Station. The minister has spoken with senior police officials to ensure swift investigation. The IT department has also been roped in to assist with the technical aspects of the case.

Ratan Lal Nath stressed that Tripura faces no shortage in power generation or supply, and routine outages only occur during scheduled maintenance or due to natural causes. He emphasized that unscheduled outages now point to organized tampering.

Urging public vigilance, he said, “Suspicious activity should be reported immediately to power offices or police. These outages are also being used as cover for theft and criminal activities.”

The government has vowed strict legal action against those involved and is working to restore stable and secure power supply. Public cooperation, Nath noted, is essential in countering this growing security threat.
