Landslide Claims Seven Lives

Agartala: August 22, 2024 – A landslide in the Gardang area of Shantir Bazar has resulted in the deaths of seven people from two families. Six bodies have been recovered, and the search for the seventh is ongoing.

The landslide occurred around 11:30 pm on Wednesday in Ashwini Tripura Para under Gardang Panchayat, triggered by heavy rainfall. Five members of one family and two members of another family lost their lives in the incident.

Due to the strong current caused by the heavy rain, rescue teams were initially unable to reach the site. Local residents took the initiative to recover the bodies, and so far, six bodies have been found. The search for the seventh body continues.

The deceased have been identified as Umacharan Tripura (25), Mandira Tripura (23), Prasenjit Tripura (21), Ajay Tripura (16), Rakesh Tripura (18), Jyotsna Tripura (21), and Kumtuisa Tripura (3). Local residents and family members of the deceased informed the media about the incident.

The entire Ashwini Tripura Para is shrouded in grief, with the community mourning this tragic event.
