Agartala, June 22, 2026: The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) convened its third Regional Board Meeting in Tripura on Monday at the Conference Hall of the State Secretariat, New Capital Complex, to review labour welfare initiatives and discuss measures for expanding social security coverage among workers across the state.

The meeting was chaired by Labour Minister Tinku Roy, who also serves as the Chairman of the ESIC Regional Board. Senior officials from the Labour Department and ESIC attended the session to assess the implementation of existing welfare programmes and explore strategies for improving service delivery and outreach.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Roy highlighted the crucial role of social security schemes in safeguarding the interests of the working class. He emphasized that the government remains committed to strengthening welfare measures aimed at improving the quality of life and economic security of labourers and their families.

“Labour welfare and social protection are essential pillars of inclusive development. Today’s meeting provided an opportunity to review ongoing initiatives and identify ways to make welfare programmes more effective, accessible, and responsive to the needs of workers,” Roy said.

The minister stressed the need for continuous efforts to enhance the reach and efficiency of ESIC services so that a greater number of workers, particularly those in the organized sector, can benefit from healthcare, insurance, and social security provisions. He also urged officials to adopt a proactive approach in implementing welfare schemes and ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive timely support.

Among those present at the meeting were Tapas Ray, Secretary of the Labour Department, Biswajit Paul, Labour Commissioner, and Binoy Bhusan Das, Joint Labour Commissioner, along with other senior officers and representatives associated with labour welfare administration.

Officials informed the meeting that discussions focused on strengthening the delivery of ESIC benefits, expanding social protection coverage, improving awareness among workers, and streamlining administrative processes to ensure efficient implementation of welfare programmes.

The meeting reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights and enhancing labour welfare through coordinated efforts between the Labour Department and ESIC. Participants expressed confidence that the measures discussed would contribute significantly to improving social security coverage and ensuring better support for the workforce across Tripura.
