Agartala, December 11:
Tripura’s Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport has reaffirmed its growing efficiency and readiness, with Airport Director Krishan Mohan Nehra announcing on Wednesday that the facility is fully equipped to operate round-the-clock domestic and international flight services.

Addressing the media at the ATS Building in Agartala, Nehra pointed out that the airport’s infrastructure and passenger service systems were thoroughly tested during Indigo Airlines’ major service disruption between November 29 and December 9, when 39 flights were cancelled. Despite the sudden operational challenges, he said, the airport ensured smooth functioning and provided continuous support to passengers.

He stated that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) Agartala team acted swiftly to handle the increased passenger load. Additional seating arrangements were made both inside and outside the terminal, while sanitation measures were boosted, especially in washrooms. The airport ensured uninterrupted access to drinking water, snacks and beverages. Food outlets were instructed to remain open until the last flight departed, with stable pricing maintained to prevent inconvenience to travellers.

Nehra also informed that Indigo Airlines had completed baggage delivery for all affected passengers and processed refunds for flights cancelled up to December 9. He noted a sharp improvement in Indigo’s performance, recording 100 percent On Time Performance (OTP) at MBB Airport since December 7. To ease travel demands, the airline also operated an additional Delhi-bound flight on December 10. Meanwhile, Air India Express and Akasa Air continue to operate normally.

At present, the airport handles 10 daily Indigo flights, three Air India Express flights and one Akasa flight, further strengthening its position as an emerging regional aviation hub. Reiterating the airport’s operational capability, Nehra said, “We are fully prepared to run 24×7 domestic and international flight services.”
