Khowai, May 18: The Khowai district police have strongly refuted rumours regarding the circulation of a so-called “Zombie Drug” in the subdivision, calling such reports completely baseless and misleading. In an official statement issued on Sunday, the police clarified that no evidence of any such narcotic substance has been found anywhere in the district.

According to the police release, detailed investigations were conducted by the Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) of Khowai and Teliamura following the spread of alarming claims on social media. The inquiry confirmed that there have been no FIRs registered, no seizures made, no arrests carried out, and no medical cases reported in connection with the alleged “Zombie Drug.”

Police further stated that the Health Department and intelligence agencies were also consulted during the investigation. Both agencies reportedly found no trace of any such drug being circulated or abused in the region. Authorities emphasized that all available information and evidence point to the claims being nothing more than rumours spread through unverified social media content.

The clarification came after a video went viral online claiming that a youth from Mahadebtilla in Khowai was under the influence of a dangerous “Zombie Drug.” However, police investigations revealed that the individual was actually suffering from the effects of excessive alcohol consumption and was not linked to narcotics in any manner.

The district police have appealed to citizens, especially social media users, not to believe or circulate unverified information that may create unnecessary fear and confusion among the public. Officials warned that spreading false rumours can cause panic and negatively affect social harmony.

Reiterating their commitment to the state government’s “Nesha Mukta Tripura” mission, the police assured that strict vigilance against drug trafficking and substance abuse continues across the district. They also stated that awareness campaigns and enforcement drives are being regularly conducted to combat illegal narcotics.

The statement was issued to restore public confidence and ensure that communities remain alert yet responsible, while rejecting misinformation that could mislead people and damage the state’s anti-drug efforts.
