Agartala, Nov 2: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday announced a one-time financial grant of ₹50.25 lakh for the development of Sanskriti Haat, an initiative of Bangla Sanskriti Boloy aimed at preserving and promoting Bengali culture and heritage.
The announcement was made during the grand celebration of the 100th week of Sanskriti Haat held at Senpara in Nandannagar under West Tripura district. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha praised the initiative for embodying the true spirit of cultural harmony and social bonding through a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere.
He highlighted that Sanskriti Haat not only serves as a hub for entertainment and cultural exchange but also contributes to the socio-economic upliftment of local families. Around 40–50 families have benefited from the project through Self Help Groups (SHGs), creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
“Considering its positive impact on the community, the state government has decided to extend a one-time grant of ₹50.25 lakh for the further development of Sanskriti Haat. The fund will be routed to Old Agartala Block through the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM),” Dr. Saha said.
The Chief Minister emphasized that such initiatives inspire the Yuba Shakti (youth power) to take pride in and promote Tripura’s and Bengal’s rich cultural legacy. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to preserving traditional art, music, and craftsmanship while reviving cultural practices that are fading with time.
The event was attended by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tonku Roy, local MLA Ratan Chakraborty, Vice-Chairman of the State Cultural Advisory Committee Subrata Chakraborty, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, CEO TRLM Tarit Kanti Chakma, and Sebak Bhattacharjee of Bangla Sanskriti Boloy.
The celebration featured captivating traditional dance performances that won wide appreciation from the audience. Modeled after Shantiniketan’s Sonajhuri Haat, the weekly Sanskriti Haat has already gained immense popularity among the people of Tripura.
