Agartala: April 09: The Communist Party is described as a political group with a “traitorous mindset.” They are accused of never working for the welfare of the poor. This is why, in 2018, the people of Tripura permanently ousted the CPI(M). Today, during a district-level workers’ conference, former Chief Minister and MP Biplab Kumar Deb strongly criticized the CPM.
During the conference, he also targeted opposition leader and Politburo member Jitendra Choudhury. He mocked Choudhury, alleging that despite being involved in the “ginger scandal,” he has not stepped away from politics. Deb further claimed that Choudhury, being an ST (Scheduled Tribe), lacked the courage to contest from an ST seat and instead contested from a general seat in Sabroom, showing no shame in doing so.
Deb accused the Communist Party of not helping a single poor family in the last 25 years. Instead, he alleged, they recruited poor youths and turned them into Maoists. He also claimed that the CPM does not respect India’s cultural heritage. According to him, this is why the people of Tripura bid farewell to the CPM in 2018, enabling Biplab Kumar Deb to form a BJP government with a clear majority.
The conference began in the afternoon with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp and tributes to Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The event included the singing of the national anthem. Besides MP Biplab Kumar Deb, the conference was attended by South District BJP Committee President Dipayan Choudhury, Mandal President Sayantan Dutta, and other leaders. Leaders and workers from various mandals of the South District were also present at the event.
