Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Officer-in-Charge Sahadev Das, along with a large contingent of police personnel and TSR jawans, conducted a surprise raid at the fairground where an illegal “Jhandi-Munda” gambling setup was running. During the operation, police recovered ₹4,020 in cash and detained two habitual offenders known for their gambling activities across different districts.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Bishnu Sarkar of Gopal Nagar, Government Para, Mohanpur, and Subir Deb of Khowai — both described by police as notorious gamblers with a history of running or participating in illegal betting games.

Speaking about the operation, OC Sahadev Das said the raid was carried out based on credible intelligence. “We had specific information that gambling activities were taking place in connection with the fair. Acting swiftly, our team raided the location and arrested the culprits. Strict action will be taken against those involved,” he stated.

Police sources informed that such gambling practices tend to resurface during fairs and local festivals, exploiting large public gatherings. The OC further assured that anti-gambling drives will continue across Lefunga and adjoining areas to curb such illegal activities and maintain law and order.

The arrested persons were brought to Lefunga Police Station for interrogation, and further investigation is underway to identify others involved in organizing the gambling event.
