Jaipur, Nov 3 — In a horrific road accident in Jaipur’s Harmara area on Monday, a speeding dumper truck plowed through 17 vehicles in succession, killing 14 people and injuring 10 others, police said.

The crash, which occurred around 1 p.m. near Loha Mandi, left a trail of devastation, with several victims’ bodies mutilated beyond recognition. The dumper, bearing registration number RJ-14 GP 8724, was reportedly heading toward the Loha Mandi petrol pump to access the highway when its driver lost control and rammed into a line of stationary vehicles.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy, posting on X: “Pained by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Rajasthan’s Jaipur. My thoughts are with those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover soon.” He also announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

Police identified the dumper driver as Kalyan Meena, a resident of Viratnagar, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He was apprehended at the spot and taken to the hospital under police custody.

According to officials, Meena had a heated argument with another driver near a petrol pump about 1.5 km before the crash. Soon after, he reportedly sped away, losing control and colliding with multiple vehicles, including cars and motorcycles.

Six critically injured victims were admitted to the Sawai Man Singh Hospital Trauma Centre, where medical teams are providing emergency care.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the site soon after the incident, clearing mangled vehicles and restoring traffic after several hours of disruption. Investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.
