The Meteorological Centre in Agartala has issued an orange alert for parts of Tripura, warning of moderate thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and isolated heavy rainfall over the next two days. The alert, valid until April 29, signals potentially disruptive weather conditions, prompting authorities to step up preparedness measures across the state.

According to officials, Khowai and West Tripura districts are likely to bear the brunt of the adverse weather. Wind speeds in these areas are expected to reach 50–60 kmph, accompanied by intense lightning activity and spells of heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Such conditions raise concerns over falling trees, damage to weak structures, and localised waterlogging, especially in low-lying areas.

Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable districts to remain indoors during severe weather spells and avoid open fields, water bodies, and areas with loose electrical infrastructure. People have also been advised to secure temporary structures, hoardings, and any loose outdoor items that could be dislodged by strong winds.

With the orange alert in force, disaster management teams have been placed on standby to respond swiftly to any emergencies. Local administrations have been directed to closely monitor flood-prone and waterlogging-prone zones, ensure proper drainage, and maintain readiness of rescue and relief equipment. Coordination between departments is being strengthened to minimise response time in case of incidents.

Meanwhile, the rest of Tripura remains under a yellow alert, indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms and gusty winds, though with comparatively lower intensity. Even so, officials have advised caution across the state, as sudden changes in weather patterns can still pose risks.

Meteorologists noted that such pre-monsoon activity is common in the region; however, the current system’s intensity, particularly the strong gusts and frequent lightning, makes it a cause for concern. Residents have been urged to stay updated through official weather bulletins and follow safety advisories closely.

As Tripura braces for two days of unstable weather, preparedness and public awareness will be key to minimising potential damage and ensuring safety.
