In a significant step toward restructuring governance in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma has announced that only elected Village Council members will be eligible for appointment as Chairpersons of zonal and sub-zonal bodies. The move comes soon after the party secured a second consecutive term in the ADC, and is being seen as a push toward greater transparency and grassroots accountability.

By ending the earlier practice of nominating individuals to these key administrative posts, the new directive effectively shifts decision-making authority to those directly elected by the people. The change is expected to strengthen democratic participation at the village level and ensure that leadership positions are rooted in public mandate rather than political discretion.

Political observers believe the reform could significantly alter the dynamics of the upcoming Village Council elections. With leadership roles now tied to electoral success, aspiring candidates are likely to view these polls as a crucial pathway to influence within the ADC structure. This is expected to intensify political mobilisation across tribal areas in the coming weeks.

Pradyot also revealed that he has approached the Supreme Court seeking timely conduct of Village Council elections, which are tentatively expected in June. Preparations are already underway, and the announcement has added momentum to political activity in ADC regions.

Alongside governance reforms, the Tipra Motha leadership has unveiled a major initiative aimed at improving education standards. Student organisations, including the Twipra Students Federation and other Tiprasa youth groups, will be tasked with conducting surprise inspections of schools across ADC districts. Over the next 8 to 10 days, multiple teams will assess infrastructure, teacher attendance, and student enrollment patterns.

The findings from these inspections will inform future policy decisions, with a focus on strengthening accountability and improving service delivery in the education sector.

By combining institutional reforms with grassroots monitoring, Tipra Motha is positioning itself as a governance-focused force in the TTAADC. Analysts say these initiatives could play a crucial role in reshaping administrative credibility and development priorities in Tripura’s tribal areas.
