Agartala, October 6: A group of students from Assam Rifles Public Schools (ARPS) in Agartala and Udaipur met Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at Lok Bhavan in Mumbai during an educational tour organised under the “Know Your India” initiative, officials said.
The students were accompanied by teachers and personnel of the Assam Rifles during the visit.
Varma, who previously served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, interacted with the students and encouraged them to make the most of their exposure to Maharashtra’s history, traditions and cultural diversity.
He advised the students to remain focused on their studies, stay connected with their roots and work towards making a positive contribution to the country.
Emphasising the importance of experiential learning, the governor directed his office to facilitate a visit by the students to Mumbai Film City and an interaction with personalities from the Hindi film industry.
The initiative seeks to provide students with first-hand exposure to India’s diverse cultural and institutional heritage while promoting national integration and the values of unity in diversity.
As part of their Mumbai itinerary, the students visited Film City and took part in a guided tour of the film and television production facilities.
They were briefed about various stages of filmmaking and gained an insight into the creative and technical ecosystem behind India’s entertainment industry.
The visit also provided the students with an opportunity to learn beyond the classroom and gain exposure to aspects of governance, culture and creative industries.
Varma appreciated the Assam Rifles for facilitating the educational tour and said such programmes could help young people develop a deeper understanding of India’s traditions and cultural diversity.
He also emphasised the role of such exposure in building confidence and strengthening a sense of national consciousness among students.
The “Know Your India” initiative is aimed at supplementing classroom education with practical experiences by enabling students to visit different parts of the country and understand its varied cultural and institutional landscape.
The students expressed gratitude for the governor’s warm interaction and the opportunities provided to them during their Mumbai visit.
They described the interaction at Lok Bhavan and the Film City tour as memorable and inspiring.
Officials said the educational tour was intended to broaden the students’ understanding of India’s shared heritage and reinforce the spirit of unity in diversity.
