Agartala: Oct 30: Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb has expressed serious concerns regarding the Indo-Bangla border fencing in his recent communication with Home Minister Amit Shah. With a total length of 856 km, approximately 26.64 km of the border remains unfenced. Despite assurances that there are no land acquisition issues affecting the fencing process, progress has been alarmingly slow.

Deb also highlighted the deteriorating condition of the existing fencing, which has fallen into disrepair and rust due to inadequate maintenance. The current unstable law and order situation in Bangladesh raises the risk of exploitation of this porous border by vested interests.

In his letter, Deb urged for prompt action from relevant authorities to expedite the completion of the remaining fencing and to renovate the aging sections. He stressed that while the Central Government’s proactive measures have mitigated infiltration risks, there is a pressing need to bolster the strength of the Border Security Force (BSF) for effective border monitoring.

These measures are vital not only for enhancing national security but also for ensuring peace and stability in Tripura amid potential challenges arising from the situation in Bangladesh.
