Agartala, June 16: Reaffirming its commitment to fostering economic growth through the empowerment of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the Tripura Government on Tuesday inaugurated the 2nd Tripura Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet (RBSM) 2026 at Hotel Polo Towers in Agartala. The event brought together entrepreneurs, buyers, artisans, and policymakers on a common platform aimed at expanding market access and boosting business opportunities for local enterprises.

The meet was inaugurated by Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, who emphasized the state government’s determination to create an industry-friendly ecosystem and provide comprehensive support to entrepreneurs. She stated that the event, organized under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) initiative, is designed to connect Tripura’s MSMEs directly with buyers from across India, thereby enhancing market linkages and investment prospects.

Highlighting the state’s achievements, Chakma pointed to the growing recognition of Tripura’s GI-tagged Queen Pineapple, traditional Risha textiles, and bamboo-based handicrafts. She noted that improved infrastructure, better connectivity, and sustainable utilization of natural resources have significantly enhanced Tripura’s attractiveness as a destination for business and investment.

The event witnessed participation from 35 buyers from various states and 68 MSME sellers from Tripura, showcasing a diverse range of products including processed foods, agro-based products, handicrafts, bamboo and cane items, and traditional crafts. Officials recalled that the first RBSM, held in February this year, generated 30 Letters of Intent (LoIs) and two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), indicating the growing potential of the state’s MSME sector.

Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte outlined an ambitious roadmap under the RAMP programme, revealing plans to provide training, technical assistance, and financial support to nearly 36,000 MSME units over the next two to three years. The initiative also aims to develop 2,400 model entrepreneurs, establish RAMP help desks at block and municipal levels, and utilize digital platforms such as Amazon and Zoho to promote Tripura-made products globally.

The event also honoured award-winning entrepreneurs and artisans. However, sudden rainfall disrupted several stalls, causing damage to products and drawing criticism from vendors over inadequate protective arrangements. Despite the setback, the meet marked another important milestone in Tripura’s efforts to strengthen its MSME ecosystem and promote sustainable economic development.
