A special initiative aimed at promoting girls’ education and empowering young women was held on Friday at Khudiram Bose English Medium School, where Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee distributed bicycles to girl students.

The programme, organised by the school authorities, sought to encourage female students to continue their education with greater independence and mobility. The initiative was welcomed by students, parents and teachers as a practical step towards reducing transportation-related barriers to schooling.

Addressing the gathering, Bhattacharjee praised the school’s efforts to support girl students and described the initiative as a meaningful recognition of the aspirations and challenges faced by young women pursuing education.

While handing over the bicycles, the MP said the initiative represented more than the distribution of a means of transport. He described the bicycles as symbols of freedom, confidence and opportunity for the students.

“These bicycles will help the girls move forward independently and fulfil their dreams of education. Today’s cycle is tomorrow’s bright future,” Bhattacharjee said, appreciating the school’s vision and commitment to encouraging girls to remain engaged in their studies.

Teachers and parents present at the programme also expressed support for the initiative. They said improved mobility could play an important role in helping students attend school regularly, particularly for families who face difficulties in arranging daily transportation.

For many of the beneficiaries, the bicycles are expected to make their journey to and from school easier and safer. Parents said the support could help ensure that their daughters continue their education without unnecessary interruptions caused by transportation challenges.

The programme also highlighted the wider importance of creating an enabling environment for girls to pursue education. Access to basic resources, mobility and social support can help young women participate more confidently in academic and community life.

School authorities said such initiatives could motivate students to focus on their studies and pursue their future ambitions. The event concluded with an emphasis on collective efforts by educational institutions, families and the wider community to support girls’ education.

The bicycle distribution programme thus emerged as a practical effort to combine mobility with educational empowerment, while encouraging girl students to move towards a more independent and promising future.
