Director General of Police Anurag visited North Tripura district on Sunday to review the law and order situation and assess election-related security arrangements. He arrived in Dharmanagar around 11 am aboard the Kanchanjungha Express and proceeded directly to the office of the Superintendent of Police.

A high-level review meeting was held at the SP office, bringing together senior police and administrative officials from both North Tripura and Unakoti districts. Among those present were District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, Superintendent of Police Abhinash Rai, and Unakoti SP Sudhambika R, along with officials from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and other security agencies.

During the meeting, the DGP emphasized the need for heightened vigilance in sensitive polling booths and strengthened surveillance along border areas to prevent any untoward incidents, including illegal infiltration. He directed officials to adopt proactive measures to maintain law and order during the election period.

Officials also reviewed contingency plans, deployment strategies, and coordination mechanisms between various security forces to ensure smooth conduct of the elections. Special focus was placed on intelligence gathering and rapid response systems to address any emerging threats.

It is noteworthy that the DGP has been conducting similar review meetings in multiple districts over the past few days, including Khowai and Dhalai, as part of a statewide preparedness exercise.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the DGP stated that central forces are yet to be deployed for the ADC elections, though a request has already been submitted. He, however, assured that the state currently has adequate police and security personnel to manage the Dharmanagar by-election effectively.

The administration remains committed to ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections across the state.
