Tripura Leads in AI-Driven Governance with Generative AI Training for Officials

Agartala, July 16: Tripura is emerging as a frontrunner in adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) for smarter governance, with the state government taking active steps to equip its workforce with AI capabilities. In a significant initiative, the Directorate of Economics & Statistics (DES), Government of Tripura, organized a three-day workshop titled “Generative AI for Impact: Smart Tools for Smarter Governance” at the Smart Training Hall in IT Bhawan, Agartala. The workshop concluded on Wednesday.

Bikas Debbarma, Minister for Planning (Statistics), graced the valedictory session and emphasized the transformative role AI can play in planning and policy-making. He praised the department’s forward-thinking vision and encouraged officials to continuously upgrade their skills to become leaders of digital change.

The workshop saw participation from over 60 officials of DES Tripura and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India. Key dignitaries included N.K. Santoshi, Director General (Central Statistics), MoSPI; Abhishek Chandra, Special Secretary, Planning (Statistics), Tripura; and Anil Digambar Patil, DDG, NSO (FOD), MoSPI.

Focused on practical applications, the training covered AI tools for summarization, forecasting, prompt engineering, and data interpretation using Python. These sessions aimed to empower government officials with hands-on skills to enhance decision-making and administrative efficiency.

N.K. Santoshi commended Tripura’s proactive approach to AI adoption, calling it “ahead of the curve.” Special Secretary Abhishek Chandra stressed that generative AI should be viewed not just as a tool but as an essential component of modern governance. He added that the initiative would soon include officials from other states as well.

The event concluded with the felicitation of both trainees and resource persons. With such initiatives, Tripura is charting a path toward AI-integrated governance, setting an example for other states to follow.
