Agartala, May 19: In response to the nationwide strike called by the All India State Government Employees’ Federation on May 20, the Tripura government has issued a firm directive stating that all government offices, undertakings, and organizations under the state government will function normally on the day of the strike.
The strike, called by the Employees’ Federation, aims to press for several demands, including the regularization of contractual employees, an end to outsourcing, and the abolition of daily-wage and contractual employment practices. Supporting the call, the Tripura Employees’ Coordination Committee (H.B. Road) has urged state government employees and teachers to participate in the strike.
However, the state government has made it clear that there will be no relaxation in official functioning. In a notification issued on Monday, it stated, “All offices, government undertakings, and organizations under the State Government should function normally on the day of the general strike. All government employees and employees of such undertakings and organizations are expected to perform their duties as usual.”
The government further cautioned that any violation of these instructions by employees would be viewed seriously and may attract disciplinary action.
To ensure compliance, all Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, Special Secretaries, and Heads of Departments have been directed to inform their subordinate staff about the government’s directive. Additionally, they are required to submit an attendance report of employees in their respective offices, undertakings, or organizations to the General Administration (AR) Department by 12:00 noon on May 20.
This strong stance signals the government’s intent to maintain administrative continuity and discipline despite union-led protest actions, emphasizing that public service delivery must remain unaffected.
