Agartala, May 17, 2025 —
In a major step towards strengthening higher education in the state, the Government of Tripura has announced the establishment of three new Government Degree Colleges starting from the current academic session. The colleges will be set up in Ambassa (Dhalai district), and Kakraban and Karbook (Gomati district), covering three key sub-divisions.
This initiative is part of the state government’s broader commitment to improving access to quality higher education across underserved and remote regions. According to the Department of Higher Education, these new institutions will offer undergraduate programs in various disciplines, thereby contributing significantly to the educational and socio-economic development of the regions.
The official notification states that the specific courses to be offered, along with the intake capacity for each, will be determined periodically based on local demand and availability of resources. The colleges will adhere to the rules and regulations of the affiliating university, and all admissions will be conducted accordingly. Seat reservations will be implemented in accordance with the latest Reservation Acts and Rules of the Tripura State Government.
Academic affairs, examinations, and curriculum development will be overseen by the affiliating university and the Education (Higher) Department. The appointment of principals, teaching, and non-teaching staff will be managed by the Department based on institutional needs.
Additionally, all official communication, records, certificates, and administrative operations will be maintained under the name of the respective colleges. This expansion is expected to bridge educational gaps and foster inclusive growth by empowering students in Dhalai and Gomati districts with better academic infrastructure and opportunities.
