Agartala: Dec 02: To make quality education more accessible and convenient for daughters, the state government has introduced several initiatives, one of which is the provision of free bicycles. On Monday, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated a state-wide bicycle distribution program at Palli Mangal Higher Secondary School in Khayerpur, organized by the Department of School Education. During the inauguration, the Chief Minister stated that under this project, 23,300 students enrolled in class 9 in the 2022-23 academic session will receive bicycles. The total expenditure for this initiative will be ₹10 crore 1 lakh 66 thousand 700.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the current government is giving special importance to the advancement of women, as they make up half of the country’s population. He mentioned that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office, he emphasized the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign, recognizing the need to prioritize women’s empowerment for the nation’s progress. He also noted that the Prime Minister envisions a future where women become pilots, and the state government has launched initiatives like the pink toilet for women on the streets. Additionally, a 33% reservation for women in government jobs has been introduced by the current government.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister spoke about the government’s focus on education. He highlighted that 125 schools in the state have been brought under the Vidya Jyoti scheme, with 96 of them offering Bengali medium and 29 English medium education. These schools are focusing on improving educational infrastructure, including the introduction of subject-specific teachers, special educators, and other resources to enhance student development and prepare them to compete at the national level. The Chief Minister also outlined various steps taken by the government over the past seven years to improve education in the state.
After the ceremony, the Chief Minister distributed bicycles to the students. Local MLA Ratan Chakraborty, Director of the Department of School Education N.C. Sharma, Director of Higher Education, and other officials were also present at the event.
