Agartala, January 31: The Tripura Rajya Upajati Ganamukti Parishad (GMP) has announced its decision to contest all 28 seats in the forthcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections. The resolution was taken during the organisation’s 23rd Central Committee Conference, held on January 29–30 at Agartala Town Hall, near Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.

Addressing the press, the newly elected GMP leadership—President Naresh Jamatia, General Secretary Radhacharan Debbarma, and senior leader Pranab Debbarma—said the active participation of delegates reflected renewed hope for the party’s movement. National leaders from the All India Forum for Tribal Rights, including Jiten Choudhury, Brinda Karat, and former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, also attended the conference and joined key discussions.

The conference saw the formation of a 25-member working committee, which included six new entrants, while a 137-member central committee was reconstituted. General Secretary Radhacharan Debbarma asserted that GMP is prepared for a “fight inch by inch” in the ADC polls, directly challenging the ruling BJP’s claims of sweeping all 28 seats.

Speakers accused the BJP–IPFT alliance of mismanagement and corruption in the ADC. “Jobs are scarce, resources are being looted, and assets built during the Left era are being leased or mortgaged,” Debbarma alleged. He criticized Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for failing to conduct promised review meetings in Khumulwng.

The conference also adopted a 10-point charter of demands and vowed to intensify agitation programmes in the coming months. Debbarma accused the BJP and RSS of imposing ideological agendas on tribal communities and highlighted issues including the demand for Roman script for Kokborok.

President Naresh Jamatia described the BJP-led government as a “new fascist regime” and called for a united struggle against both the BJP and TIPRA Motha. “The main adversary is the BJP, but Motha is also aiding extremist forces,” he said, emphasizing that the upcoming struggle will be both political and ideological, aimed at protecting tribal rights and asserting GMP’s presence in the ADC.
