Tense Situation in Kaitrabari Area Following Vandalism Incident

Agartala: August 26: A tense situation emerged in the Kaitrabari area under Ranir Bazar police station on Sunday night, following the vandalism of a Kali idol. Clashes between two groups erupted in the evening due to this incident. Allegations have surfaced that miscreants retaliated by vandalizing, looting, and setting fire to houses and shops of the minority community.

Upon receiving the news, local MLA and Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, along with a large police and TSR force, rushed to the scene. The situation is currently under control. The administration has imposed Section 144 of the BNS Act. A peace meeting has been scheduled for 3 PM today.

Reports indicate that local residents discovered the face of the Kali idol in a dilapidated state in a 35-year-old temple in the Kaitrabari area last evening. As the news spread, tension gripped the entire Ranir Bazar area, leading to clashes between two groups. It is alleged that miscreants later attacked the houses of the minority community, resulting in several houses being set on fire, looted, and vehicles vandalized.

Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, upon arriving at the scene, spoke to the locals and urged them to maintain peace and harmony. A large police and TSR force has been deployed throughout the area to control the situation. The administration has imposed Section 144 of the BNS Act in Jirania sub-division from 1 AM on August 26 to 1 AM on August 28. The situation is currently stable.
