Agartala, May 15: Tripura Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das on Wednesday strongly criticized Tamil Nadu opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin over his alleged remarks targeting Sanatan Dharma and also questioned the silence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during the Assembly proceedings.

In a Facebook Live address, Das accused Stalin of repeatedly making statements against Sanatan Dharma and described his recent comments as “hate-filled” and divisive. He asserted that Sanatan Dharma has survived numerous historical challenges over centuries and cannot be destroyed by political rhetoric.

“Sanatan Dharma is eternal. No one has the power or capacity to destroy it. Throughout history, temples were attacked and destroyed, but the faith remained strong among the people. The Somnath Temple stands as an example of resilience and revival,” Das said during his address.

The Tripura minister also targeted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, alleging that videos from the Assembly session showed him remaining silent while Stalin spoke. Das claimed that the Chief Minister’s silence and reactions during the speech reflected indirect support for remarks he described as offensive to Hindu beliefs and traditions.

According to Das, such political statements hurt the sentiments of millions of Hindus across the country and contribute to growing ideological divisions. He further accused Congress, Left and Communist parties of historically supporting narratives that, in his view, undermine Hindu interests and traditions.

Das claimed that a growing sense of cultural and religious awareness was emerging among Hindus across India. “People are becoming increasingly conscious of their identity, traditions and heritage. A Hindu awakening is taking place across the nation,” he said.

Appealing to people in Tripura and elsewhere, the minister urged citizens to remain united and vigilant for the protection of Sanatan Dharma and social harmony.

The remarks have triggered sharp political reactions and public debate. Supporters of the minister praised his strong stand in defense of Hindu traditions and cultural identity, while critics argued that such statements could deepen political and religious polarization.

The issue has once again highlighted the continuing national debate surrounding religion, politics and freedom of expression in public discourse.
