Agartala, May 15: In a significant move aimed at strengthening the state’s law enforcement system, the Tripura government has constituted a committee to oversee the recruitment of 916 police constables across the state. Officials from the Home Department said the recruitment drive will include vacancies reserved for both male and female candidates.

The recruitment process is expected to be one of the major appointments in the state police force in recent years and is aimed at enhancing manpower in various police units and battalions. The initiative is also expected to generate employment opportunities for youth aspiring to join the police services.

According to sources, the committee has been formed under the leadership of Mihir Lal Ray, Commandant of the 1st Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR). Senior TSR and police officials, including Pratim Chanda and Dipa Debbarma, have also been included as members of the committee to ensure smooth and transparent conduct of the recruitment process.

In addition to police officials, representatives from the Scheduled Caste Welfare, Scheduled Tribe Welfare and Sainik Welfare departments will also be part of the committee. Their inclusion is intended to ensure fair representation and proper implementation of reservation policies and welfare guidelines during the recruitment process.

Officials said the committee will supervise all stages of recruitment, including preparation of guidelines, verification procedures, physical efficiency tests, written examinations and final selection of candidates. The government is expected to release detailed notifications regarding eligibility criteria, application procedures and examination schedules in the coming weeks.

The recruitment drive is being viewed as an important step towards strengthening Tripura’s security infrastructure while also creating employment opportunities for educated youth across urban and rural areas of the state.

Sources indicated that the state government is keen on maintaining transparency and accountability throughout the process. The presence of officials from multiple departments is expected to help ensure fairness and proper monitoring during recruitment.

The recruitment of 916 constables is likely to significantly boost the operational capacity of the Tripura Police and improve law and order management across the state.
