The present Chief Justice of Odisha High Court, Dr S Muralidhar will retire in August this year. After that Shubashish Tolapatra will take charge as Chief Justice of Odisha High Court.

Incidentally, Subhashish Tolapatra was appointed as a judge of the Gauhati High Court on 15 November 2011 and chose the Tripura High Court as his workplace after the High Court was established separately in Tripura in 2013. After being transferred, he is serving as a judge in Odisha High Court from June 10, 2022. He has gained considerable experience of delivering judgments in two High Courts.

After considering all relevant factors, the Collegium considers that Justice Subhashish Talapatra is fit in all respects to be appointed as Chief Justice of Odisha High Court.
