Agartala: August 05: Bangladesh is currently experiencing widespread protests demanding the end of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government. On Sunday, at least 97 people lost their lives amid the unrest. In response to the situation, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has issued special guidelines advising Indians to avoid traveling to Bangladesh at this time. The Ministry has also urged Indians currently in Bangladesh to exercise caution.

The guidelines were posted on the Ministry’s X handle on Sunday night, stating, “Given the current situation, Indians are advised not to travel to Bangladesh under any circumstances. Those already in Bangladesh should remain vigilant and stay in contact with the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.”

Additionally, the Ministry has launched three helpline numbers for Indians stranded in Bangladesh. On Sunday afternoon, the Assistant Ambassador of India in Bangladesh advised all Indian citizens, including students in the Sylhet region, to contact the office and remain cautious. An emergency phone number was also provided.

Despite meeting certain demands, protests continue in Bangladesh, with students and young people taking to the streets to call for the removal of Sheikh Hasina’s government. The clashes between protesters, the ruling Awami League, and the police have resulted in 97 deaths, including 14 policemen. A non-cooperation movement has begun, and mobile internet services have been suspended to control the situation. A curfew has been imposed across the country.
