Agartala: Dec 09: Today, former Tripura Royal Scion and Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, along with Member of Parliament Kriti Debi Singh, met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. During the meeting, they discussed a range of important issues, including the Tiprasa Accord, border fencing with Bangladesh, patrolling, and the 125th Constitutional Amendment.
In a message shared on social media after the meeting, Pradyot highlighted that the discussions focused on ensuring the proper implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, strengthening border security with Bangladesh, and addressing matters related to the 125th Amendment. The leaders also discussed the ongoing need for improved fencing and patrolling along the Bangladesh border to enhance security in the region.
Pradyot further shared that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be visiting Tripura in December, demonstrating the central government’s ongoing interest in addressing the region’s concerns. Additionally, MP Kriti Debi Singh submitted a letter to Amit Shah urging the implementation of the 125th Amendment in the Sixth Schedule areas of the Northeast. The letter stressed that the aim of the amendment is to empower these regions, providing them with greater autonomy.
Pradyot also mentioned that a recent meeting in Delhi saw representatives from all Sixth Schedule districts presenting their requests and grievances to the Home Minister. In response, a three-member committee was formed to address the issues of these districts and regional councils. The 125th Amendment, according to Pradyot, holds significant potential to boost administrative and financial autonomy, socio-economic development, and cultural preservation for these areas. He emphasized the urgent need for the implementation of the amendment to meet the unique challenges of the region.
