The accused have been identified as Bunty Nayek and Sujit Roy, both residents of Radhanagar. Acting on a specific tip-off, police learned that the duo was actively involved in the illegal narcotics trade and had been operating in the area for a considerable period. According to police sources, the suspects were allegedly targeting local youth, supplying heroin and other prohibited substances.

Based on the intelligence input, West Police Station officers conducted discreet surveillance in the area before launching a coordinated raid late on Wednesday night. During the operation, a quantity of heroin was recovered from the possession of the accused. The seized contraband has been confiscated and sent for further examination as part of the investigation.

Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee said the arrests represent a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle a larger drug network operating in and around the locality. “Initial interrogation of the accused has already yielded important leads regarding the supply chain and other individuals associated with the racket,” he said, adding that further arrests are likely as the probe progresses.

On Thursday, both accused were produced before a court, where police sought remand for detailed questioning to trace the source of the narcotics and identify other links in the distribution network.

Police officials reiterated that the action is part of an ongoing anti-narcotics अभियान aimed at curbing the growing menace of drug abuse in the city. Residents living near Pragati School expressed relief following the arrests, stating that drug-related activities had caused fear and unease in the area for months. They welcomed the police initiative and hoped for sustained action to keep the locality safe and drug-free.
