Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Monday appealed to party workers to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead follow legal means if they witness violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Emphasising that violence is not a solution, the Tipra Motha chief urged restraint during the ongoing election season.

In a social media livestream, Debbarman said elections are temporary, but social bonds within communities are long-lasting. “For politics, we shouldn’t fight each other. It creates division among brothers. The recent violence across the state is giving our community a bad name and tarnishing Tripura’s image,” he remarked.

His appeal comes in the wake of reported clashes in different parts of the state. Several BJP workers, including party candidate Moji Debbarman, were injured in one such incident. Earlier, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma was also reportedly attacked while visiting a party worker’s residence in Mungiakami.

Debbarman further alleged that he had received reports from party workers about attempts by certain political groups to bribe voters. However, he advised supporters not to engage in unlawful activities in response. “If anyone is violating the MCC, expose them. Capture photos or videos and inform the police. Let the law take its course,” he said.

He also urged voters across party lines to participate in the elections without fear and exercise their democratic rights confidently. Expressing faith in law enforcement, Debbarman said he believes Tripura Police will act impartially based on evidence rather than political considerations.

Reiterating his message, Debbarman stressed that maintaining peace and upholding democratic values are essential during elections, calling on all stakeholders to ensure a fair and violence-free polling process.
