Agartala: Oct 07: In North Bengal, BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh came under a planned attack by a group of miscreants allegedly supported by the Trinamool Congress while they were assisting flood-affected communities. The incident occurred as both leaders were actively involved in relief and rehabilitation work, providing aid and support to those impacted by recent floods.
On Tuesday, BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb visited Shiliguri to meet the two injured leaders and check on their physical well-being. Speaking to the media, Deb condemned the attack, saying, “Khagen Murmu and Shankar Ghosh were helping people in need, yet they were targeted by violent elements. This is a blatant example of the political violence and intolerance promoted by the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.”
Deb further alleged that the Trinamool government, led by Mamata Banerjee, is attempting to cling to power despite losing public trust. “With the loss of popular support becoming evident, Mamata Banerjee has converted the state machinery into an instrument of her party. Law and order is being undermined, and a reign of terror, often referred to as ‘Jungle Raj,’ has been imposed in the state,” he said.
He added that under Mamata Banerjee’s rule, incidents of violence, intimidation, and political vendetta have become daily occurrences, eroding the democratic framework in the state. “Recognizing that people are no longer on her side, the Trinamool leadership is emboldening criminal elements to suppress dissent and destroy democracy. Each day under her governance writes another shameful chapter of lawlessness and fear,” Deb stated.
BJP leaders have demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the attack, calling for strict action against the perpetrators. The party has also urged the state administration to ensure the safety of elected representatives and maintain democratic order in West Bengal.
