Agartala: August 24: The mysterious death of Kajali Deb (26), a housewife from Dharmanagar Progati Road, has taken a new turn. On the night of July 26th, around 2 am, family members found Kajali Deb dead in her home, allegedly having committed suicide by hanging herself with a saree. She was taken to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. A case was registered under section 103(1)/3(5) of the BNS Act.
Kajali’s parents, who reside at Nayapara Auto Stand in Dharmanagar, were informed. The next day, they filed a case against Kajali’s in-laws at Dharmanagar police station, alleging that they had conspired to murder her. Based on their complaint, a case was registered, and Kajali’s brother-in-law, Bipra Das, was arrested. Kajali’s husband, Bishwa Das (34), who was undergoing treatment at Dharmanagar District Hospital, was also arrested after being discharged and sent to court. Kajali’s father-in-law, Birendra Das, a retired teacher, was not arrested due to his age.
Birendra Das stated that on the night of the incident, there was a heated argument between his two sons, Bishwa and Bipra, over a family matter. During this time, he said some harsh words to Kajali, which he believes led her to become upset and commit suicide. Kajali’s mother, Shipra Deb, mentioned that her daughter had called her crying, asking to be taken away from her husband’s house.
Dharmanagar police officer Debashish Saha stated that the investigation is ongoing with the involvement of senior officers and forensic experts to determine the real culprit. Various social organizations and political leaders have launched a movement to uncover the truth behind Kajali Deb’s death. Members of the Women’s Commission from Agartala have also formed an investigation seeking justice.
After nearly two months, Kajali’s father-in-law, Birendra Kumar Das, and mother-in-law, Preeti Das, were arrested from Dharmanagar Station Road area. The North District Police continue to investigate the case. Locals have submitted a deputation to the North District Superintendent of Police to ensure a proper investigation.
