In his statement, Deb highlighted the strategic importance of the Assam-Agartala (NH-8) National Highway, which serves as a vital gateway to the northeastern region of India. He emphasized that this project is in line with the BJP government’s “Act East Policy,” and the Assam-Agartala National Highway connects Tripura with other states, making it crucial for regional connectivity. However, he pointed out that the 11-kilometer stretch between Choraibari and Sonichara remains in a deplorable condition, leading to frequent road accidents and severe transportation difficulties.

Deb also mentioned the additional problem of waterlogging on the highway due to the excessive rainfall in Tripura. The lack of proper drainage systems on the national highway causes flooding, making it difficult for local residents to commute. He urged the government to prioritize a permanent solution to these issues.

To address this, Deb called for the attention of the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, urging the formation of a committee from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to look into the matter and resolve it as soon as possible. Deb stressed the need for swift action to ensure the safety and convenience of commuters, as well as to improve the overall condition of the critical national highway.
