Agartala, September 27: The Tripura State Election Commission has completed preparations for Monday’s Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), with polling to be held at 1,095 stations across 44 blocks amid extensive security arrangements. The SEC has appealed to voters to exercise their franchise peacefully and without fear.
Elections are being held for 2,950 seats in 587 Village Committees, while 1,644 seats have gone uncontested and no nominations were filed for three seats. A total of 8,176 candidates are contesting the elections, according to the commission. (Tripura Times)
Around 6.65 lakh voters are expected to cast their ballots. Of the 1,550 polling stations identified for the elections, voting will take place at 1,095 stations where contests are being held. (India Today NE)
Four types of ballot papers — white, light pink, light green and light blue — will be used depending on the category of seats.
Security arrangements have been strengthened across the state, with 74 companies of Central Armed Police Forces deployed for the elections. The forces are carrying out area domination, patrolling and other security measures to maintain law and order. (India Today NE)
The SEC has also deployed 8,977 personnel from the state police and Tripura State Rifles, while around 1,500 security officers have been assigned responsibilities related to maintaining law and order during polling.
Additional security measures have been taken at sensitive polling stations, where Central Armed Police Force personnel have been deployed.
Around 7,458 polling personnel have been organised into 1,243 teams for conducting the poll, according to the commission. Polling teams began moving towards their assigned stations on Sunday, accompanied by security personnel and carrying election materials, including ballot boxes and ballot papers.
After voting concludes on September 28, polling teams will return to the respective Returning Officer offices with the ballot boxes after completing the prescribed sealing procedures.
The SEC said polling personnel had been trained and oriented on the Standard Operating Procedure to ensure smooth conduct of polling.
Counting centres have also been identified across the state. The commission has begun the process of appointing counting supervisors and assistants, who will undergo the required training before counting.
