In a major breakthrough against illegal narcotics and unaccounted cash movement, police personnel from Bishramganj Police Station apprehended two individuals during a routine naka checking and seized Rs 15 lakh in cash from their vehicle. The arrested persons have been identified as Shantanu Saha, a cloth trader from Sutradhar Para in Melaghar, and his driver Shahin Mia, a resident of the Chandigarh area in Melaghar.

Following the arrest, the Melaghar Police received a tip-off about the presence of illegal narcotic substances at Shahin Mia’s residence. Acting swiftly, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jayanta Das, along with SI Subir Saha, officers Asit Bhattacharjee and Ram Kishan, and officials from the Sonamura SDM office, led a comprehensive raid on the premises with a large police contingent.

Initial searches inside the residence did not yield any results. However, a detailed inspection of the compound led to the discovery of four cartons of Eskuf syrup hidden inside a Bolero vehicle (registration number TR02K-0556) parked in the courtyard. Upon opening the cartons, police recovered 600 bottles of the banned cough syrup, confirming the illegal consignment.

The vehicle, the narcotic stock, and Shahin Mia’s younger brother, Ilyas Mia, were taken into custody by Melaghar Police for further investigation.

Briefing the media, OC Jayanta Das confirmed the successful operation, stating, “We are investigating the source and distribution network of the seized narcotics. The detained persons will be produced before the court, and strict legal action will follow.”

The operation highlights the proactive approach of Tripura Police in combating narcotic trafficking and maintaining law and order, particularly ahead of the festive season when illegal trade activities often rise.
