Agartala: February 28: Acting on a credible tip-off, a combined team of police and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel conducted a targeted raid at the residence of Abhijit Pal in the Bas Pukur Panchayat area, situated under the jurisdiction of Yatrapur police station. The operation resulted in the confiscation of 1.5 crore taka worth of dry cannabis and the apprehension of one individual.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Subrata Debnath spearheaded the operation, which unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday. The authorities had received specific information around 1 a.m. regarding a substantial stash of dry cannabis stored at Abhijit Pal’s residence.
“In response to this actionable intelligence, we promptly alerted the Salpukur BSF camp, and they swiftly joined forces with us,” stated the OC. Within half an hour, the joint team executed a meticulously planned raid on Abhijit Pal’s premises.
During the operation, law enforcement discovered several plastic drums containing dry cannabis within the living room, as well as additional sacks behind the house. The abandoned area on the east side of the house also yielded several more sacks and drums filled with cannabis. In total, seven plastic drums and seven sacks, collectively weighing 358 kg, were seized on the spot.
The house’s owner, Abhijit Pal, son of Krishna Pal, was taken into custody along with the confiscated contraband at approximately 3:30 a.m. A case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Abhijit Pal is scheduled to appear before the Sonamura Court today for further legal proceedings.
Over the past few days, the Yatrapur police, in collaboration with the BSF, have made significant strides in curbing dry cannabis trafficking. The ongoing raids align with directives from higher authorities within the police department, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining law and order in the region .
