Agartala, October 23: In a significant development, the East Agartala Police Station has arrested Paresh Ghosh, a suspected land mafia, following a complaint. Ghosh, a resident of Chandrapur, was taken into custody based on allegations of extortion.
On October 20, Aparna Sarkar Roy filed a complaint at the East Agartala Police Station, stating that Ghosh had demanded two crore rupees from her when she attempted to sell her land near the national highway between Chandrapur and Khayerpur. Acting on this complaint, the police registered a case and identified Ghosh as the suspect.
Paresh Ghosh was arrested and presented in court, where the police sought his remand for further interrogation. The Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer, speaking from the East Agartala Police Station, confirmed the arrest and mentioned that the investigation aims to uncover other individuals involved in the organized crime network.
The Officer-in-Charge of the East Agartala Police Station highlighted that the case against Ghosh includes specific sections under the new BNS Act, which addresses organized crime. Land mafias have been a persistent issue in various areas of Agartala, including Chandrapur, Bardowali, Ramnagar, and Indranagar. The local community has long been troubled by the influence of these mafias, who demand large sums of money from anyone looking to buy or sell land.
The police have assured the public that efforts will be intensified to eradicate such criminal activities and bring all involved to justice. The arrest of Paresh Ghosh marks a crucial step in addressing the problem of land mafias in Agartala.
