Agartala, Feb 25: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday underscored the need for enhanced coordination among security agencies, particularly the Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura Police, to strengthen vigilance along the Bangladesh border.

Addressing the Police Week function at Manoranjan Debbarma Memorial Stadium on the outskirts of Agartala, Saha said closer synergy between the BSF and state police is crucial to ensure security in border villages and prevent cross-border crimes. Tripura shares an 856-km international border with Bangladesh and is surrounded on three sides by the neighbouring country, making it vulnerable to smuggling, illegal infiltration, and other trans-border offences.

Holding the Home portfolio, the Chief Minister praised Tripura Police for its role in maintaining law and order, conducting anti-drug drives, preventing road accidents, and addressing public safety concerns. “I am confident that Tripura Police will continue its journey of excellence with dedication, integrity and professionalism,” he said.

On the occasion of Tripura Police Week 2026, Saha inspected the parade and paid tribute to personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. He asserted that Tripura remains one of the better-performing states in terms of law and order, adding that improved security has contributed to a rise in tourist footfall in recent years.

The Chief Minister claimed that the crime rate has fallen by 8.3 per cent over the past two decades and that police infrastructure has steadily improved. He highlighted intensified efforts to combat cybercrime and the drug menace, while reiterating that there would be no compromise with criminal activities.

Saha also flagged off 20 vehicles and 120 two-wheelers for police stations and distributed medals to officers, congratulating them for their dedicated service.
