Agartala: Dec 04: The Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), once a party on the brink of extinction, has recently regained momentum, akin to a dormant volcano awakening. On Wednesday, the party organized a procession in Dokmali Bazar, Khumulwng, which was followed by a rally. IPFT President Prem Kumar Reang, who was present at the event, addressed the media, highlighting that the annual program in Khumulwng was a long-standing tradition, held every December. He emphasized that the main demand of the party remains the creation of Tipraland, a separate state for the indigenous people of Tripura.
Prem Kumar Reang reiterated that the IPFT has been steadfast in its demand for Tipraland since 2009. He pointed out that after the change of government in 2018, the current state government had made various promises aimed at the development of the tribal community and the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs). However, according to Reang, none of these promises have been fulfilled, leading the party to demand the immediate implementation of these assurances. Along with this, the IPFT has once again called on the government to create Tipraland as a separate state to ensure the rights and safety of the indigenous people.
Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, who participated in the program, echoed similar concerns about the safety of tribal communities. He highlighted the growing apprehensions among the tribals due to the atrocities faced by minorities in neighboring Bangladesh. He expressed fears that if the tribals’ existence is endangered, they may face similar challenges. To address these concerns, Noatia emphasized the importance of fulfilling the demand for a separate Tipraland state, a demand that the party has persistently raised through various deputations to the Indian government. Hundreds of IPFT workers and supporters joined the rally, underscoring the continued strength of the party’s demand for Tipraland.
