Agartala: Mar 18:  The Indy Alliance, a coalition of like-minded democratic political parties, is gearing up for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in the state. A crucial meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday, where leaders will deliberate on a joint campaign strategy to secure an edge in the electoral battle.

Sources reveal that the program of the meeting has been meticulously crafted to address this purpose. With the ruling BJP already announcing heavyweight candidates, including Biplab Kumar Deb for the West Tripura Lok Sabha seat, the Indy alliance faces the challenge of finalizing its campaign approach. While Deb’s campaign has stormed across the state, the opposition alliance is yet to unveil its strategic playbook.

Polling in Tripura is slated for April 19 in the West constituency and April 26 in the East Constituency. Political observers note that the BJP is leveraging sentiments tied to the state’s history of 25 years of left misrule as a potent campaign weapon. Deb, the BJP candidate, has been taunting the opposition with references to this misrule, creating ripples that extend even to the Congress camp.

The ruling BJP has boldly asserted that the opposition won’t secure even 1 lakh votes in the Lok Sabha elections. This assertion puts the Indy alliance to the test, as they strive to counter the BJP’s dominance. The stakes are high, and the pressure on opposition parties has intensified since the assembly elections. For the Congress, defeat in the Lok Sabha polls would be a significant setback.

As the Indy alliance convenes this week, their top leaders are expected to chart a course that could shape the electoral landscape. The Wednesday meeting holds immense importance for the opposition, as they seek to navigate the challenging political terrain and mount a formidable challenge against the ruling party.

The Indy Alliance’s efforts to strategize and stay ahead in the Lok Sabha polls are closely watched by political observers. The battle for Tripura intensifies, and the outcome will significantly impact the state’s political landscape. The Congress, facing the specter of defeat, pins its hopes on this crucial meeting. As the countdown to the polls continues, all eyes remain fixed on the unfolding developments in Tripura.
